Description
Oki, a young Polynesian
fisherman, has left the safety of the lagoon to catch fish for
the yearly ritual which takes place on the lip of the island's
active volcano. But when a terrible storm comes up, Oki's
outrigger is nearly capsized and Oki is certain God intends to
drown him.
Then the storm ends and Oki
looks around in shock: the island-- the only land he has ever known--is gone, and the empty horizon stretches in every
direction.
Thus
begins Oki's journey, a search for his own land and people that
takes him far from both, to cultures and islands eerily similar,
yet startlingly different, than his own.
